Dungeon Defenders takes this statement and makes it loud and clear, the game is a 3-D environment built around the tower defense style of game play. With multiple entry points for enemies and various defense points you will gather mana in order to build defense and attack towers as well as using your special skills during the battle phase.
The game is simple in nature but a strategy is always the need for the deed, with the build phase players or player will take mana scattered around the map in treasure chest and start placing offenses and defenses around the desired areas, then once that is done you can start the attack phase in which the invading forces will start their attack. Does this sound familiar?
Each character will have different defense towers to choose from, the Squire and the Apprentice will set up basic attack and defend points that will function as such versus the Huntress and the Monk will set up more complex “towers” like traps and Chi Element like Bubble fields that can slow down and poison enemies. The weapons much like the playable characters have a lot of personality, almost as if Final Fantasy inspired. For example I have played as a Squire and I wielded a simple knights blade to a complex oversized buster sword inspired by Cloud from Final Fantasy VII, and at the same time you have the Huntress wielding hand guns, riffles, and even the all might Apeture Science Portal Gun.
Also one more weapon in your arsenal of destruction is the familiar, a small pet like companion that comes along for the ride. These can vary on their appearance and their abilities, for example the Dragons can fire projectiles and the small Flying Ligers attack enemies with bites. But all this comes in as secondary reason to choosing a familiar, they also can affect a heroes stats, whether it’s bonus health, attack power, or even your towers can be affected by the familiars presence.
