WTF Weekly Arizona:: Movie pick for January 2012

I thought this remake was going to suck ass. Fright Night was originally released in 1985 and has had a cult following ever since. My first year of college way back in 1999, Craig (my co-host on WTF Weekly AZ) and I used have Fright Night nights where we would curl up on the couch, eat as much junk food as possible and watch both Fright Night movies. I feel the charm of the original movies couldn’t be duplicated and when I heard Colin Farrell was going to star in this remake I was terrified! Fright Night was released in August and I had planned on taking Craig for his birthday but I could not wait that long.
My wonderful boyfriend actually took me to the midnight showing and we saw it in 3D. As I started watching this movie I did catch myself comparing it to the original but about a half an hour in there is no comparing the two movies. This remake had a completely different story line which was “up to date” tuned into the times, however you want to put it. Jerry the vampire was played by Colin Farrell and was Charley’s neighbor, Jerry was trying to kill and make vampires for his clan or whatever you want to call itCharley and Evil Ed were not friends through this entire movie which actually ended up making more sense in the end.
My favorite phrase in the movie was “your so cool Brewster” actually ended up being in the dialog when Charley and Ed were fighting and I thought it was awesome how the writer snuck the catch phrase in there. Peter Vincent was a Las Vegas magician and collector of ancient artifacts and Peter was played by Dr. Who David Tennant.
I am not a fan of 3D movies but I ended up taking Craig again to see Fright Night NOT in 3D and I really think this movie is better in 3D. The computer graphic were a little cheesy but come on, it is a cheesy movie. Anyways, I thought the story line was better then the original story and I need to mention that the original writer actual wrote the screen play for this movie so this wasn’t Hollywood just trying to make money.
