New Look Same Great Results - LensPen Product Make Over

These five LensPen models – Original™, DigiKlear®, MiniPro®,MicroPro™ and FilterKlear™ – feature a stylish new design and state-of-the-art packaging. A completely new look, but with the same unmatched features that have made LensPen an optics necessity, not just an accessory.

Well we got our hands on each one of these new pens, and to no surprise to anyone here at Disciplined Monkey Studios they are fantastic, the new look includes a new feel to the pens, the more astecthic curve feels a lot better when you grip it compared to the originals.

The new look also includes color coding for those of us who carry more than one type of pen for all the different devices we use on the field, and with the change one would think that the product would change in some way but thankfully the same great solution stays in the pens with 500+ cleanings on eah one it’s still a photographers and touch screen users best friend to have at hand.

There has never been a better time to get yourself a replacement pen or for those of you who are starting to get into photography get your first one now.

Wipe it Klear

When it comes to making screens and lenses clean and clear Lenspen is the leader of that particular skill.

So when I was given the chance to check out the FogKlear cloth first hand I was very intrigued as to how they could improve on a simple concept like a micro fiber cleaning cloth.

And as per usual I was very pleased and impressed with the results of my product test, as of recently I have started wearing prescription lenses again and well if you wear glasses then you know first hand how bad and dingy the lenses can get with just normal use. The FogKlear kept my lenses clean and clear, but I was not surprised at all on how well the product worked.

It’s quite simple the FogKlear will work for camera lenses, glasses, binocular lenses, and well almost any kind of lens. Once again I highly recommend this product it’s set at the right price and well it fits in the back of your pocket and can be used endless amount of times. The FogKlear from LensPen is the Klear choice for all your lens wiping needs.

Wipe, Swipe, Brush, Repeat - Lenspen Laptop Pro Review

Once again I find myself with the task of reviewing a new LensPen product, and when I mean task I mean the fun of checking it out first hand.

This one is designed to clean your laptop screen and keyboard, so an overall cleaning tool for your laptop. Now I have tried a lot of different things to when it comes to cleaning my laptop screen and I have had little to no luck in good results.

I have tried the screen wipes, which you buy in bulk dispenser tubs and they end up drying up long before you use half of them. Worse is that all they do is wipe the screen and keyboard but they do not remove any of the dirt, in fact they simply make it more like dark mud smudges and then they are dragged to the edges of your screen to continue life there.

The other option which is usually accompanied by the purchase of a smart phone or small touch screen devices is the cleaning micro fiber cloths, again not the best option mostly because it can only handle dust and not really smudges. This one is a slightly cheap alternative since you can usually find it hanging by the check out stands in little key chain like kits, but again the job does not get done all the way and really it may work well for a phone but not for a screen that can go from 10.1 inches all the way to 19 inches.

And so this is where LensPen takes all this knowledge and applies there well tested product and make something that works well and is simple to use.

The Laptop pro comes with 2 brush options built into the hand held device, 1 for your screen and the other for your keyboard, on the other side you have a carbon swipe pad that works very similarly to the SideKick for tablets and such. On top of that they provide you with a moist screen towel to swipe off some the thicker dirt and gunk that has built up on the screen.

I tested this unit on my Portable Editing laptop and it had not been really cleaned in a few years so it had a lot of build up and well it really needed to be cleaned, overall it worked well, it took the dirt off and helped me dust off my keyboard and speakers with the use of the brushes. The only downside is that the towel provided is basically a one time use since it will dry up after you open it and use it. Other than that I can highly recommend the product for regular use, in fact with how small it actually is just throw it into your bag and I doubt you will even notice you have it in there.

Once again I am happy to say that LensPen delivers on the promises their products make, so if your like me and need to keep something handy to clean up your laptop go and do yourself and your devices a favor and keep them clean.

DSLR Cleaning Made Easy - Sensor Klear Loupe Kit

Less than a minute. That’s how long it took to clean my sensor using the “Lenspen Sensor Klear Loupe Kit”.

I use the Canon T1i DSLR camera (the Canon KISS in Japan, and EOS 500D in Europe) and cleaning is generally easy for this model, however, it usually involves a flashlight, and bulb blower, and when cleaning, there is always that tiny bit of question left over, of “did you get it right?” Being the sort that I am, about wanting a job done right the first time, this little kit is a bit of a lifesaver. The unit itself has a glass, barrel, and small light, which magnifies the sensor, and lights it for you, with an opening to use the bulb cleaner, as well as a lenspen to get anything stuck on the sensor by static. The ease of use is fantastic. I had my doubts at first, as seeing it as an extra step, but, the design is a simple matter of sitting the unit onto your mounting ring, and looking through the glass. There were no questions after cleaning that the job was finished, and what’s more, the unit gave piece of mind that the sensor on my camera is in perfect condition. I was rather surprised by how well it worked, and what’s more, how quick I could get the job done, what with being able to see inside the camera with such ease. There was also that added piece of mind that no dust was going to fall into the camera while cleaning, as the unit covers the mount quite well.

I also had a fellow photographer over to the studio, and had him test it on his Nikon, and he found the unit to be just as easy with his camera, as I did the Canon.

This is a tool, that I would recommend to anyone with a DSLR camera, to preserve the life, and quality of their camera. It makes sensor cleaning a lot faster, and easier, and again, I would normally see something like this as a time consuming gadget, but, it actually saved me a lot of time, while giving me a quality cleaning.

On a scale of one to five, I give this a straight up five, for performance, ease of use, as well as usefulness.

Real Side Swipe with a Kick

While at CES 2011 we had a very early morning meeting with LensPen, and even though we were very tired from the long weekend and low amount of sleep, there was a moment when a whole new Lenspen cleaning tool was announced and demonstrated; and then we were all wide awake for the rest of the presentation.

What we got to see was old world technology working at it’s best, carbon has been used for many decades as put by LensPen’s people “Our mom’s used to clean windows and glass, what do you think newspaper is printed with?”

And as simple as it sounds it is that simple to use the Sidekick, you separate the cover from the carbon pad and then slide it across the surface and it’s clean, no residue and not sticky surface to worry about. But then again you know this already because every LensPen product functions the same way, the key difference is the level of carbon that each one has for the different surfaces it is meant to clean.

Now for the good part… It’s available for purchase now! LensPen has it available now for only $19.99 and a two pack of replacement pads is available for $14.99, yeah you do have to replace the pads but they are good for 150 cleanings of an iPad screen. So if you have an iPad or any kind of tablet device you know the smudged screen is ugly and it’s almost impossible to get it back to perfectly clean, get a LensPen Sidekick and enjoy it as much as I have since CES.

Lenspen Goes Even Smaller

Well Lenspen does it again and this time the product is even smaller but just as powerful as before, with all the advancements in cell phone technology and cell phone camera resolutions it is no wonder that the people who take care of our professional lenses would come and take care of our smaller more portable cameras.

The newest product is called CellKlear, it is a very small version of a regular size Lenspen. And when I mean smaller I mean cell phone charm size product that can hang from your cell phone, the main reason you should own one of these products is simple it cleans up your lens and make your pictures clear and truly brilliant.

And for under $10 on the company website all on the go photogs should have one hanging from their phones or anywhere they can keep it. Honestly this is just another great product from Lenspen and I cannot recommend it enough. So if you own a cell phone with a high resolutions camera like an iPhone then you need to own this.

Brush, Polish, and Shine

Lenspen the leading company in carbon cleaning and a name that all photographers know as the name that makes all good lenses shine and keep the sharp clean images on their equipment.

Well when it comes to Lenspen we know the product works and it works extremely well, I still have not had to change the cartridge on my Sidekick Lenspen cleaner and with all 3 refills still sitting at my desk I doubt I will run out any time soon. But since Lenspen knows that photographers and videographers alike live a somewhat active hobby they made a special travel kit that keeps all the cleaning equipment we will need on the go and a little more.

The LensPen OutDoorPro Kit includes Original LensPen, MiniPro II, MicroKlear, and FogKlear in one nice compact carry case for less than $35. And if you have ever used a LensPen product you know they are made to last and a lot of people will recommend them to you, I personally will be taking a kit to E3 and basically do a field test as it were but I already know how well the products work since I use them to clean my touch screen cell phone, iPod Touch, and cameras to keep the finger prints, smudge, and dust off them whenever possible.

If you travel or need to get a LensPen anyways go ahead and get the kit, the fact that you get 2 pens and two cloths that have a different function completely covers the cost of the product and the carrying case is a nice bonus to keep it all together. Well if it is not clear by now I highly recommend this kit to anyone who is going to be traveling with any kind of camera equipment.

Photo Op - CES Photographer's Coverage

Many of you know that photography and videography  are important to me. I use my skills and equipment both for professional uses here with Disciplined Monkey Studios as well as my own creative endeavors. And having the right equipment can make a big difference and that is why I paid close attention to a few things at CES.

Tiffen was on hand showing off a wide variety of accessories to help you get the shot you want.  They have all the standard tools like filters, cases, lighting, tripods and so on. But what caught my eye was their Steadicam lineup. These are designed to help you get a smooth and fluid picture or video without being tied to a tripod. Though they have been around since 1976, they continue to improve just about every year.

product_lp_lrgAnother Company that was out in force and has some products that I’d rather not go shooting without is LensPen. They offer the best solution I have found for cleaning your lens. The Original Lens pen has a brush on one side to clear debris and the other is a cleaning pad with a carbon compound that easily removes oils like fingerprints. The have products for all sort of optics and also for mobile devices like the iPad. For Tablets the Sidekick is a niffy product to remove those distracting fingerprints.

Next let’s look at the most important equipment- The camera. Canon was out in full glory showcasing DSLR cameras and camcorders. While I didn’t see anything new other than a few awesome lenses that are outside of my price range, they still have some of he best on the market. From the Mark III and Mark IV to the 7D (that’s what I use) and all the way down the road to the Rebel series- They have DSLRs for everyone.

XA10_279x186On the Camcorder front, Canon has a slew of new models. I’ll cover a few for you. The Vixia HFG10 is a prosumer model that will give you professional High Definition video. It features 32GB of memory and supports to SD cards for plenty of recording time and a full HD CMOS Image Sensor. For full on professional you’ll want the XF305 which has everything you need.  From 2 CF card slots to waveform audio monitoring and XLR inputs with recordings up to 50Mbps! And for the prosumer they also have the XA10, and ultraportable HD performance machine. 64GB flash memory and 2 SDXC card lots. This one is more for those who would like the high quality, but don’t need to go all out!

These are just a few things that we saw.
